If you measure an agent's worth by the glitz, glamorous marketing campaigns, bells, whistles, and in some cases, stereotypical riding boots, than you've missed it when it comes to finding a quality agent.
With inventory low, it's critical to hire an agent who knows the market for your target cities, what's available within your price point, and/or how to price your home. An agent who sits down with you to understand what your needs are, and who understands the financial aspects of the investment you make in terms of the purchase, or sale, for what may well be your most valuable asset.
Of utmost importance is working with an ethical agent who doesn't cut corners, or take risks when it comes to protecting his client. Sadly, some agents are willing to compromise just to make a sale. Clients even run the risk of litigation; both costly, and emotionally draining. Keep in mind that when you hire an agent, they are representing you and you run the risk of liability for their actions; which, can have serious repercussions.
So when you reach into your mailbox and pull out, not a plum, but a glut of agent ads, remember that - much like the notorious political arena- a well funded ad campaign isn't necessarily the evidence of a great, ethical agent! Look for quality, over glitzy ads, and you won't end up just another notch on Rufus Glitter-Teeth's leather check book.
Best Wishes throughout 2016!
! Agent Jet.
